Like me, you might thik that eye strain is caused by looking at monitor for long hours, however the designer of VisiKey computer said that

“Most of this eye strain is caused by the computer monitor. However, some is caused by looking at the small font, and poor contrast of their current computer keyboard.”

So, “VisiKey™ keyboards reduce eye strain and may even eliminate some users need for corrective lenses when using their computer*.”

The 430% larger print of the keys on the keyboard do help a lot for novice users, but if your are an advanced typist, you probably never look at your keyboard at all while typing.

Typing Without Computer Keyboard but With Your Brain

Oneday, we all can free our fringers from typing on QWERTY keyboard as we can use our Brain to type in the future. The video shown below is a “serious research” that shows two guys type WITHOUT keyboard. There isn’t any much word and information about the research, however, from the video, we can see that this technology will be available pretty soon.

Have you ever though about how the world’s biggest keyboard looks like? The “Teleklettergarten” is so far can be claimed as the world’s biggest keyboard which is actually an indoor climbing wall to train for a vertical ascent. This “World’s biggest keyboard” is connected to a monitor. This keyboard is unveiled at Ars Electronica 2003 and the spokeman of this keyboard said that

Visitors go through a trainee program to learn software development skills. Programmers and climbers work collaboratively in an oversized programming environment

Zune Keyboard – Razer Pro Multimedia Keyboard

“Zune” music player, one of the “secret projects” that Microsoft is working on to compete with Apple iPod music player, has not been released yet. Nonetheless, a special type of multimedia keyboard, the Razer Pro has been released and the selling point of this Razer Pro keyboard is it supports Microsoft Zune Music Player docking. According to gizmodo.com website, this Razer Pro keyboard will be released sometime in November of this year. Interestingly, the manufacturer of this multimedia keyboard will also release a different model keyboard that supports iPod docking. This is definitely a very smart way of marketing.

New Standard Alphabetical Ordered Keyboard

Can you recall your first experience of using QWERTY keyboard to type something on computer? Did you ask the question why the alphabets letters are all messed up on the keyboards? Here comes the new concept of keyboard design after the QWERTY keyboard has been invented for more than 100 years.

The picture shown above is the new keyboard layout from New Standard and the revolutionary idea of this keyboard is the keys are arranged alphabetically starting from A to M sitting the left side and N to Z on the right side. The arrow keys, instead of separating from alphabetical keys on QWERTY keyboard, it is placed in the exact middle of the New Standard keyboard.

Contrast to QWERTY keyboard which has about 108 keys, this New Standard keyboard just has 53 keys. Because of this, this unique keyboard only measures just 12.5″ x 5″ x 1″. According to the inventor of the New Standard keyboard, John Parkinson says the new keyboard is designed to eases learning curve for ‘hunt & peck’ typists and senior citizens.
